Timeline of the Ennen family on Norderney

1869

Jan Ennen and his wife Martje Jacobs Uphoff acquire a guesthouse at Victoriastrasse 2 on Norderney.

1889

Jan Ennen leases the municipality's dairy and takes over waste collection and the transportation of ice for the island.

1892

The Wattpost business is discontinued after Claas Uphoff's tragic accident.

1911

The Ennen family lived in the boarding house in Victoriastrasse until around 1911, when it was sold after Jan Ennen's death.

1960s

The main building at Luisenstraße 16 is expanded into the “Hotel-Pension Ennen”. After the purchase of the annex “Haus Christa” in Damenpfad, the range of services is expanded.

1962

After Brigitte and Enne Ennen's wedding, he takes on increasing responsibility in the family business and becomes head chef. The restaurant area is modernized and expanded.

1987

Enne and Brigitte Ennen take the next big step: the old main building and the annex “Haus Christa” are demolished and replaced by a modern hotel and restaurant complex.

05.11.1988

Official opening of the new hotel restaurant with invited guests.

1994

Uwe Ennen continues the expansion of the business: on November 30, 1994, he buys the boarding house at Damenpfad 23 from Susanne and Gerhard Eberhardt.
The demolition and new construction will connect the building with the “Haus Christa” annexe. This means that the entire hotel complex now extends from Luisenstrasse to Damenpfad and has two entrances. The properties at Luisenstrasse 16 and Damenpfad 22 and 23 are merged under the name “Hotel Ennen”.

2004

Uwe and Monika Ennen take over the family business in the fifth generation. Uwe contributes his experience from the upscale restaurant business, while Monika takes care of the commercial side.

2019

The family tradition continues: Uwe and Monika Ennen continue to run the hotel with great dedication. Their children, Nico and Chiara, are ready to follow in the footsteps of the previous generations after completing their training.
